Hi everyone! I have a few eggs due to hatch soon! One is an Auraucana egg fertilized by an Auraucana roo. It is to hatch any day now! I used a small flashlight to candel it and found a large chick inside. It was breathing and squirming around in there so it must be ready to pop soon! I also noticed that the chick didn't seem to have any yolk around it. How long are they without yolk before they hatch? I went in the coop a little later to find that the broody was not directly on the egg. The egg was slightly chilled. How long can it go without the hen's warmth?
We have one Orpington egg fertilized by the same Araucana roo and it is being brooded by another hen. I can't wait to see the Orp-aucana!
Another broody of ours is incubating two eggs. One is a full Araucana, the other a Wyandotte egg fetilized by that good ol' Araucana roo! SOOOO excited for the Arauc-dotte! The eggs are scheduled to hatch around May 10th (except for the one that I candeled).
