Just wanted to say on the whole turkey egg hatching thing...I'm hooked! We set our first clutch of eggs and had 15 hatch! We we're so excited. Heard a lot of failure stories especially from locals and hardly anyone is selling poults around here so I wasn't extremely optimistic but I just followed some tips from this site and everything went smoothly. We set 20, 3 didn't develop beyond blood vessels and two stopped half way. At that point with 15 eggs I was expecting some to expire before the hatch but all the rest came out just fine. I'm excited to see how the colors turn out. I have a blue slate tom over what looks like a tri colored mottled black and tri colored penciled palm (?) Hens. (I know only a little about the hens parents so I can't say what all genetics are thrown in) The poults were grey and black. I did the porter's calculator and honestly don't know too much about the colors but I'm trying to learn. This is what I got Screenshot_20220504-233441_Gallery.jpg

The ones that came out gray have the slate (D) gene. The ones that came out black do not have the slate gene. They won't necessarily show their full differences until they have their adult feathering.

Congratulations! That's an excellent hatch rate, especially for your first set. In my experience it's common to lose anywhere from 10-25% on most hatches.
