I just started lock down at 9pm last night (yay), and I heard them peeping then. When I got home from work I noticed one has already pipped. My humidity is running around 60. Should I go up or down? How is the one hatching so early? ?.

You're heat might have been a bit on the high side to trigger them hatching early but they should be okay I think. If you're the kind of person that likes to open the incubator a lot to check on the chicks(like me) then I would put it up to a bit higher. 60% should be okay but watch the chicks closely, especially the membrane, to make sure it isn't drying out. If it is(and you can tell if it's turning wrinkly, papery looking or brown) you should put the humidity up a bit higher. If that still doesn't help the membrane, take a wet q-tip and get the membrane moist.

It was likely the heat. You live in Texas, so the incubator probably has been hotter because of the heat there. I do not think the humidity has much to do with it.

Well I came home from house sitting and found 3 little surprises!
2 chicks and a quail hatched. Several more on their way!

I know somebody said something about opening the bator a lot to check on the chicks, however... If they are quail chicks, DONT DO IT. I promise that if you open that incubator while there is little quail running in it, they will immediately be suicide bombing off whatever you have the incubator sitting on. Quail chicks can clear the side of the incubator faster than you can blink you eye and the next thing you know they will be on the floor with a crooked nexk.

Haha. They're on the floor in the closet, so they won't go far! But I have to open it to take out the chickens so they don't hurt them. So far so good lol
