Hatching tray too small- chicks falling down side

I have a borotto 24- the hatching tray with it is too small for bantam chicks they can fall down the side under the turner and into the water!
Any solutions to this? Can I stuff the sides with something or could that change temps/be a hazard?

Can you put window mesh in the gaps?
