Hatching Turkey Eggs?

Blackhead is a disease that turkeys can get if they are exposed to chickens that have worms. If you free range the chickens and turkeys together make sure your chickens have a good worming program. Free range turkeys can still get blackhead however, from being exposed to wild bird poop or even earth worms which can also be carriers.

Putting turkey eggs and chicken eggs in the bator together is common, as stated set them a week appart so they hatch out the same time. Chicks being with poults is the best way to assure that the poults learn to eat and drink and stay the right temp (under the light or just out from under) as they are followers. About week 2 I move the chicks out as I find the poults are getting big, sometimes picking on the chicks and I want to get the chicks onto chick food, but some people leave them with the turkeys.

Thanks for all the replies

I'm not even sure I am going to try hatching the turkey eggs - I might just give them to someone else - but, I just needed to know the high and low points of trying it

To avoid black head just dont use an incubator and let the mothers do what they were made for. Oh and a good thing is that if the electricity just happens to go out, you dont have to worry about the chicks dying in the eggs. Volia problem solved and if you turkey wont sit use a silkie they are great mothers and they are very well insulated.
