Hatching with 2 broodies

I just had to share some pics from today, the first day dry enough to (try to) work outside in a week!
This one is for you TGG!:

Zorro, showing Bettina, how to get some pets:

Hi Team

How is everyone doing? How goes the DDD Liz?

Had the worse day of my 14 year career with this company yesterday. I had to do a 1.5 hour presentation in front of the CEO and various Directors and colleagues. It was a train wreck; I have never been so embarrassed in my life. I knew the material inside and out but I had to follow someone else's script with people in the Boardroom and others on Teleconference, working on a large screen projector .. it was just awful. 14 years credibility went out the window; I looked like a complete idiot

Left home at 06:05am and did not get home until 05:25pm. Hubby was wonderful; he had given the cats some time in their outside play area and fed them; free-ranged and fed Dusty, Tina and Suzi and also made sure Cilla had a break from nesting, something to eat and a stretch plus he had also emptied the dishwasher; his pet hate. Probably a good thing because I arrived home and burst into tears!! :(

Anyway, obviously I did not get to spend any time with my girls and it felt weird; I normally spend a couple of hours with them every afternoon. Everyone looked happy and Cilla is still going strong.

Day 14.

we are ALWAYS harder on our selves than others are. I know you feel badly and I know...because I have been there... so I am just saying that I am sorry it went badly and I hope hope hope you will soon be able to feel more confident and sure that you are a bad ***** at work home and online!

I screwed up with this broody hatch by putting both Bantams and LF under the mama. I am going to bring the bantams inside to try to hatch them in my incubator. Tomorrow is day 15 and so day after I think I will bring them up.

Hoping it goes well

Day 14?!? WOOO!!

Liz, love the pics!! Everyone looks so happy! Awesome to hear that the crate is working out for Desi!

We're bracing for 10-14" of snow over the next two days. The coop bedding has been flipped, with a new layer added. Food has been topped off. The sleds are next to the door and branches have been set aside for snowman arms. I stocked up on milk and hot cocoa mix yesterday. My husband will be home shortly to top off the fire wood rack. Bring on the snow!!

Nice work on the snow prep, MM! Sounds fun! My dog and I are jealous.
My news for the day: Marsha squatted for me! She had been checking out the nest box, which was a good sign, but the squatting was even better! And, she let me pick her up. I put a couple more temporary nest boxes in the coop, since there seemed to be a bit of tension over the main box area, with everyone wanting to lay in the afternoon today. It was a pretty loud day on everyone's part, between laying noise and Desi trying to jump everyone noise and lots of crowks.
Other good news: another neighbor contacted me and said he hadn't heard the crowing and would love to visit the farm for gardening ideas. No word from anyone else. I may have to keep putting up with Desi after all!

Day 15 comes to an end and all is well :)

Thank you all so much for your kind support; feeling a bit better now. At least I will never have to do another presentation lol!

TG I thought you were a day ahead of Cilla? Day 21 for us is Wednesday ( 7pm Thursday evening as I type). Getting excited now! :)
She is talking a lot more and I have caught her nattering away to herself on the nest, or is she nattering away to the bubbies?

MM, Snow? Of what do you speak? Tee hee
We are in for a scorcher this weekend; happy I will be home to keep Cilla topped up with water.
It is probably work for you but your snow preparation sounds like fun to me :) Valentines Day tomorrow, how nice would it be in front of a warm fire watching the snow fall. Sounds more romantic than melting and sitting on opposite ends of the couch because it is too hot to sit close :)

Liz, that is good news about the second neighbour! How wonderful if your neighbours rally around Desi and support his being a valid member of the community :)
Of course we expect pictures of Marsha's first egg in her new home.
Speaking of pictures .. I loved the recent ones. Bettina is very pretty and I spied Desi in the background.

@Teila maybe a time zone thing but because I gave Penny her eggs Tuesday pm so I don't count Tuesday as a full day. Wednesday was my real day 1.

All 5 eggs have development though so YAY!!!!!!!! Going to try to hatch the two bantams indoors so that will be exciting too!

So glad you are feeling better about work. Further glad your husband is the kind of guy who takes care of you. I am willing to bet he would say the same about you.

Ah, OK, I gave Cilla her eggs @ 06:00am on the Thursday, so I am counting that one! :) This time zone thing messes with my head sometimes but I am thinking that makes Tuesday your Day 21 and my Day 21 is the Wednesday but because I am ahead of you we could be closer than we orginally thought? .. how exciting! :)
(Is that even logical? I have read that twice and I am still wondering if it makes sense!! If we ever work out how to travel through time I am going to be in deep trouble! lolz )

Good news on development in all 5 also .. woo hoo. I have no idea; have not touched the eggs since I gave them to her. She is nattering away to something I think lol :)

Yeah, hubby is so sweet .. grumpy but sweet lol. Must be his heritage :)

Hi everyone! Mama and baby are doing great still. We are coming out of an ice storm so keeping the chicks warm with unfrozen water has been an added chore. They have made a mess with their feed and I am sure they are bored! I managed to get my two RIR hens out for a while. Mama stayed in tending to her baby. We have a Silkie pullet that we have been trying to add to our other chickens and the poor thing gets scared to death. I don't blame it one bit! We have brought it in during the night until the ground thaws out more. It appears to be a roo and that is not cool. The breeder agreed to switch it out if so but that means starting all over with another one. Ugh!! Well whatever is meant to be will be!

Well, we survived. What was supposed to be 10-14 inches turned into two feet. We've had our fun building snow forts, tunnels, and a little sledding. The chickens won't leave the coop. We may get 1-3" more tonight, but spring weather next week. My hubby and oldest son are on the way out to try to clear the bottom of the driveway. We might get to leave the house this weekend!
Fun thing about chicken chores is that the coop is down hill amd I get to use a sled!
Liz, your pup would love it! My lilly girl bounds from spot to spot and has a series of trenches that she runs through! She gets some good sleep when she comes in! Great news about Marsha!! Wooo!
Teila, I enjoy the chicken chores, too. I worked at horse farms in high school and college. Loved every bit of it until 7 wagons of hay had to be stacked in 90* weather. Even then, we made it fun.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! And Happy 23rd Birthday to my longest Valentine, my horse!
