Hatching with 2 broodies

Liz? how to you have all this on a quarter acre? wow...I'm movin in. I'll wait till the babies get here though. It sounds amazing. I moved here...a year ago and i planted a garden but it was completely destroyed by grasshoppers. but I cant let the chickens go to town on the grasshoppers. Teila...
Since there is not a lot of flat space in my yard, there's not much temptation to leave open space to run around in, so it's pretty densely planted. Even if I didn't plant stuff, volunteer plants would take it over. Things grow like crazy in this part of California. And, we don't have grasshoppers. Wow, that sounds tough! Grasshoppers definitely sound worse than deer. Where in Texas are you?

Super scary about that pit mix neighbor dog! Luckily my neighbor now never lets his dog loose outside (he only ever did once before, and that was the day he got Stella). Is it possible to ask people to not let their dogs wander in Texas? There's no fool-proof method to keep some dogs from wandering, unfortunately, but maybe your neighbor should take some steps or else he'll never get that horrible look off his face.

Daisy can become Desi

Luv it! Yep, it definitely is an excellent name for a rooster :)

Helloooo Team Broody!

Good news that Molly is sticking with it TexGG!

Exhibit A
Crested Turtle Dove; note the long tail feathers ........

Exhibit B
Crested Turtle Dove after Dusty beat it up for trying to steal her dinner:
Note the distinct lack of tail feathers. Special mention to Mr Parrot for the excellent execution of a photo bomb ....

Lost something?

and, just to finish off with just how dumb this particular dove is; a shot of it perched on top of the cat outdoor play house. At the time, both cats were in residence lol ...........

Hey ladies!! Happy Thankgiving!!!!

I cant believe it's back again! You must have some pretty tasty treats!!! It's a pretty little dove though...too bad it's not gonna last very long. Hopefully he will learn how to avoid all the critters but he hasnt done too well so far...
Now wait a minute....is that a REAL parrot in the tree???? Unbelievable. We have no colorful birds here....none. gray... and more gray...I take that back we have red birds (cardinals) every now and then and maybe a blue jay. Although, i see very few blue jays anymore. I have to remind myself.. you're in Austrailia That's crazy!! beautiful!!!! How lucky to have that flying around in your backyard.
Quote: from Liz Ummm.....no... Im about 45 minutes away from Fort Worth. Outside a small town.....Springtown. I'm waaaaayy out in the country. Most people dont have yards and dogs typically just hang out on their property. There are also a lot of wild dogs...a lot of dogs get "dumped" out here....they get together and run in little packs. Very seldom do they cause problems besides fighting amongst themselves. Animal control only pick them up when they start fighting... I am happy to say my neighbor has started keeping his dog in the house. He lets him out a few minutes several ties a day though and he never watches him but at least he is not loose all the time now. I told him I would shoot him if I caught him any where near my chickens...and i would! In the air....I could never shoot a dog. But he doesnt have to know that.

I think Desi is a great name for a rooster!!

Teila, I think your beautiful local birds may beat my deer. They probably do less damage too.
TexGG, that's a good warning to the neighbor. As the owner of a challenging herding dog in a semi-urban area, I have to be very careful with her, because I know that if she bites the wrong person (or kid), I could lose her. At least Texans respect chickens as livestock/property and he knows he could lose his dog if it kills the wrong chicken.
If Daisy is a Desi, I could console him with Lucy reruns when I bring him in at night. ;)

Good morning Team Broody :)

Wooo hooo, Friday .... 7 hours to go and I am outta here for the weekend.!
The pullet grower I ordered arrived so I am going for a drive tomorrow to pick it up. I get to check out a produce store I have not been to before; better leave the cash and cards at home! :)

Yeah TexGG that is a real parrot and one of 10 or 12 that visit every afternoon for their treats. The cheeky buggers sit in the tree now at feed time and nag me until I give them their seed lol. They are wild but they are getting used to me feeding them and I would not be surprised if fairly soon they jump on my arm when I have the cup of seed in my hand .. they are so close to doing that :)

Liz, I am not so sure making Desi watch Lucy reruns qualifies as consoling! lol

I have to try and get some more pictures of the bubbies this weekend; you have to see what is going on with their feathers, they have the funniest looking heads! lol

Have a great afternoon my friends

I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving! I had a lovely hike in the redwoods with Reggie, got some plants in the ground, and had dinner with my Italian friends, one of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions.

I managed to get some pictures today, to show the ch-ch-ch-changes the bubbies are going through. It's looking to me like I probably have one of each, but it's still too early to tell for sure.

The whole flock (Ida/ho on the upper left, Daisy/Desi on the step below):

Reggie, tired from our hike, posted up right here and refused to budge:

Hhhhm Liz, Daisy/Desi does look a tad bigger than Ida/ho doesn't he/she?

Lovely pictures once again Liz, happy Thanksgiving to you all xoxo

I had to share bedtime pictures. 7 weeks old tomorrow; surely she will be teaching them to roost soon? lol
