Hatching with 2 broodies

This is my first time..lol...so here are 2 pictures one each of the 2 eggs that our mama hen has been sitting on now for 16 days. I am pretty sure one is coming along great. It is dark all over with the air space at one end. The other seems to have air space at both ends...not too sure. Any thoughts?

You might not can tell well but this is the one I marked on both ends where I see an air space

This is the one I think is good

In my google search I found a diagram that seems to point to a late death of the egg I have in question. Dang it!! I think I will let it stay and recheck it in 2 days just to make sure.

Love your pics. Dorkings are a pretty breed. The general is very handsome too. You have a beautiful flock. I could watch chickens all day. I TOTALLY agree. Roosters are my favorites and so sweet to their ladies. Bart Cracks me up!!, he's kind of dorky and he is so big he's clumsy. He tries to dance around but gets his wings caught up under himself. And just ends up looking goofy. But he gives it a heck of a try!! They are so fun. I would never have guessed what good pets they could be. So sorry to hear about your friends family. So sad.
MM. That's a tough one... So many good names. Yea!!! Glad Zorro is keeping you on time with his dinner. That's a good sign!!
UHHHH Teila, What the heck is cricket

Oh wow, How did I miss you? Welcome!!!! I wish I knew more about candeling. The other gals here...and Pooman will have info on that. Wish I could be of more help. Glad you are here! Is this your first time hatching? I've only hatched once and have my one little chick to show for it. Haha. You sound like you will be hatching along with a couple of us here....so fun. I wish you lots of luck.

Yes this is my first hatch! Our boys 14 and 6 are experiencing all this new stuff too. I am using a friend's eggs since when she went broody her eggs were not fertilized (we sold our rooster weeks ago). We are in city limits, looking for a 5 acre lot with a house so we can get out and be allowed to have our chickens. As long as no one complains we are ok for the moment!

Welcome, Riseup. You might get better advice on your candle pics on other threads, but maybe TG will have some thoughts on it. I've only done this once, and I can't really tell from your pics, but 2 egg cells in one egg doesn't sound good. I would smell them and if not bad, then keep them under her and be ready for the chance that they might not hatch and can even explode if they are bad.

Sorry, I can not help with your candling question. My candle experience is limited to lighting them during a power outage!
You would be at Day 17 now? How exciting for you, not long to go. Day 4 here.
What breed of chicken is your boody? What type of eggs is she sitting on?

Quote TGG: "UHHHH Teila, What the heck is cricket"
Wow, how to describe cricket? I was going to give it a shot but I cheated; Wiki to the rescue! lol

Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of 11 players on a field at the centre of which is a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. Each team takes it in turn to bat, attempting to score runs, while the other team fields. Each turn is known as an innings.
The
bowler delivers the ball to the batsman who attempts to hit the ball with his bat far enough for him to run to the other end of the pitch and score a run. Each batsman continues batting until he is out. The batting team continues batting until ten batsmen are out, at which point the teams switch roles and the fielding team comes in to bat.

Thank you Wiki, back to me lol! The game I watched on Friday is played over 4 or so hours and the game also comes in one day format and also a test match format which can be up to 5 days long! :)

Time to start my Sunday now, housework to conquer, bread to bake, one week's worth of chicken breakfast/dinners to cook and of course, chickens to play with!
Will check back later to see how everyone is doing :)

Cricket....Oh. Yes yes. I've seen that. Had to take a peek on you tube to see how it was played. Teila. You're Sundays are busy!! I'm so lazy...haha. I don't even want to get off the couch today. I have some good news. I found a neighbor who has a sitting hen so I have two choices. I can let Miss Molly sit and then just give the chicks to the other hen to mother... Or I could give her the eggs to do both. I haven't decided what I'm going to do...I'm going to check with him tomorrow after he gets home from church and give him the eggs....maybe. Either way. I will get a couple chicks after they have been SAFELY mothered. He said he has a hen who is a very good mother. I have some roof fixing on the coop to do.... Later all!!

The broody hen is a game chicken and she is sitting on americauna eggs. I did not think to try and smell the egg, I will give that a try! I was busy working on our coop today. I now have a tray for the floor that I can pull out that has sand to catch the poop! I think this is going to be so easy to keep clean!

Also in the past I have given the eggs the benefit of the doubt and left them till the next candling after I thought they might not doing anything just to be sure. I candled my first hatch continuously. My second and third just twice and thats my plan for this current hatch too. Day 7-10 and day 18.

Best of Luck
