Hatching with 2 broodies

Teila,
They are so cute, Blondie is absolutely adorable

Thank you both :)

Yep, can't argue with you there, Blondie is adorable and such a sweet personality, she sits on my lap for cuddles .. I couldn't help myself, a couple more :)
(Ooops, please excuse the chicken poop)

Sassy has been broody for 4 days now. I wanted to let this hatch acquainted with the main flock and add a new roost or two before any additions..... Sassy was broody with Molly with these baby chicks but Molly managed to steal all the eggs. Now she is broody again, I feel bad she never gets her chance to raise a clutch but not sure we are ready for more  I've taken her eggs every day and noticed she was off the nest this morning. Maybe she gave up.
I just had the biggest scare! I accidentally left the dog door open and Reggie ran into the back and chased the flock. She's never hurt them before, and I wasn't too worried about it at first, but Lucy got really freaked out and I couldn't find any sign of her except some feathers for a really long time, I was worried she was in shock, or maybe flew too far away from the yard to make her way back, but she finally did make it back to the coop, after about 40 minutes of looking for her.

I'm really relieved she's ok and really mad at my dog! But, mostly relieved - it could have been worse!

Omg Liz!! Poor Lucy. Glad she came home safe and sound! Crazy dog .... Hahahaha Just wanted to play. ;)
16 paws. Good job keeping those chickies safe!! Lol. I thought my bunch was crazy....not so much compared to your egg carrying chickens. That's too funny.
Welcome chickie68!!! Yes, those broody mommas jump off the nest and are back on it in a flash. I rarely saw Molly off the eggs. I did take her a snack and a drink a couple times a day....she was spoiled. But that's ok!! She enjoyed it and so do I.

It would be fun to have another broody hatchalong.

I give my girls their eggs today. I will post a pic of all the parents and the eggs.

I have not heard from Gracie Belle's person. She was unclear on the hatch date but guessed that she was on day 11 11 days ago....I feel a tiny bit like an adoptive mommy who isn't hearing from the birth parents...I have sent 2 fb messages...1 yesterday, 1 the day before. I don't want to be a pain so I won't send another but.....I am anxious. I hope she gets a chick...I actually hope for 4.

@Teila Blondie is an amazing little thing. I don't blame you for being head over heels for her. I am so glad you included poop in your pics...I always worry for the chickens in the poopless photos...and the people too for that matter.

16P, I keep meaning to say how adorable that description is of Cousteau teaching the girls how to use the new nest boxes! Roosters are so funny. It cracks me up when Desi starts chirping up a storm after I throw scratch in the coop, as if he's the one to bring the ladies this bounty, and they never would have found it without him. Oh, and kudos to you for all the rescuing! I can barely handle one dog, I can't imagine 6!

Thanks for the support on the Lucy ordeal. Yesterday, she was really reluctant to go into the backyard. She stayed behind in the run for about a half hour, warning the others of their doom, and I almost called her chicken, but she eventually came out and realized it was safe.

A few of my hens are toying with the idea of going broody right now, but so far I've managed to convince them otherwise by just taking the eggs away. I'm doubtful it'll stay that easy, but I'm holding out for a few months, at least.

I don't believe I've posted a Reggie (Regina) shot in awhile. Note the smirk:

Good morning Team Broody! :)

Well, luckily I had a lovely day with my girls yesterday and got to open everything up for a dry-out/airing because today is looking very much like an inside day ... incoming!

Every afternoon, once the girls have gone to bed, I pooper-scoop the paths and sweep all the dirt back where it should be. A bit silly really because it looks nice while we sleep and while I am at work and the next afternoon, 5 minutes after they are out free ranging, it is back to messy and I do not care one little bit; as long as they are happy :)

Blondie sat on my leg having a little sleep yesterday afternoon to the point that my foot fell asleep also but I did not move, loved every painful minute of watching her sleep! lol

I love all my little girls so much but this five and a half week old munchkin is something else; I wish I could describe the way she looks at you and the effect she has on you; trying not to sound crazy here, but it is kind of freaky the effect she has!

Yikes! stay dry my friend.

I think your yard is lovely and I think it is great that you take pride in it even if it is wheil you are sleeping and at work. The daily maintenance makes it so you can pull it together at a moments notice if the queen stops by for a visit

I love the way you talk about Blondie I am so glad that you have her and that you two have that special connection. You are in good company when it comes to being a crazy chicken lady.

Here are the pics I talked about earlier

Here are the Bantam Eggs Silkie over MF D'Uccle
.

The egg makers

and with the baby daddy

And here is their surrogate mama. She is settled down on all 8 of them and even took in another egg when Jamie Lee Curtis laid one in the nest box with her

These are the eggs from my CA Grey Girl Blanche and My Dorkings. I stuck a 10th CA grey egg under her right after Blanche laid it. Have I mentioned that candling white eggs is so rewarding!!!

And lastly here is grumpy Norma...out of a flower pot into a nest box and hunkered down on 10 eggs. She is covering them all and it seems like none of the others are trying to force their way into the nest box with her...don't blame them she is NOT Miss Congeniality for sure.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I love the idea that these chicklets are due to hatch on Easter Saturday. Perfect right?

Lols at Queenie dropping in .. can picture her stepping in chicken poop in her multi-pound (or Euro) valued shoes!

Just ducked out to have a quick chat with the girls before the weather hits ... everyone is getting along pretty well, considering. Blondie is on her favourite perch, Tammy, Cilla and Dusty in the dirt bath and Tina not too far away, but far enough that Cilla is not giving her a hard time! Integration has gone so well this time. Poor ole Tina seems to cop the brunt of Cilla's protectiveness but then I think part of that is due to the fact that Tina is so very curious about the little ones; I can see a good friendship in the future :)

Beautiful chickens TG .. Baby daddy is just gorgeous! Easter babies is perfect timing; well done. Lots of bubby pictures for us to enjoy at Easter

My much loved 13 year old dog passed away on Christmas Day a few years ago and I haven't really felt like getting another one until I see pictures of Reggie; she is so so adorable! Makes me wonder about getting another one; I don't think the cats and girls would share my feelings though :)

Here comes the rain! No excuses now .. time to start the housework
