Hatching with 2 broodies

So whats going on. Where are all the old crew who made this 385 pages.

I'm not Teila, but here....and my two older banty girls (adopted retired show hens....6+ years) are broody as all get out.

I am letting them sit in 2-3 eggs. I say 2-3 because they have both been sitting on ONE egg however every time they get off the nest and come back they see other eggs and switch laying boxes. Apparently huge Leghorn eggs are irresistible! If, God willing, the eggs hatch they will be mixed breeds....the father is the little Ginger Roo in my avatar, and the biological mother will either be one of these girls or more likely my young BB Red hen (she adores the roo with a passion....they are named Crimson and Clover and for good reason).

Im still here,

I have been having a ton of broodys here as well. I have been breaking some in my broody breaker coop but then others start and we just keep going on and on....

I had my bantam frizzle buff cochin go broody for a week and I then decided to try and graft some days old chicks from the feed store to her and it worked! She took them in with no problem.

My biggest headach with the broodys here is that they always want to stay in the main nest box and the eggs somehow get broken. If I try and transfer them they flip out.

Sonya, I love the broodys and their names are adorable. I may have use those names in the future if you dont mind. I love that song. Who sang that?

Happy chickening all......

When you transfer the nest can you cover it with dark material? I moved my two broodys to a nest box near the floor (one of the plastic wall mounted types). I covered the door with dark material and they seem to have settled in right away, even going back to that box after a trip outside.

That is great that your frizzle adopted the day old chicks!

Two groups did that song but my favorite version is by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, I always thought the song was about a serial killer:
