Day 19: 1 pekin/cochin bantam has begun to hatch

In a mixed hatching of Pekins, Ixworths, Welsummers and Rhode Island Red bantams

Should you stop turning pekin bantams earlier then day 18 I'm just hatching them for the first time now im on day 6. Any help is much appreciated :-)

NO, stop turning in day 18. I see that you are in Ireland. Do they still call Cochins, as there know in the U.S, Pekins? They are originally from China & that's how they got the Pekin name.

Yes it took me a while to figure that out i used to think they were some sort of subspecies for a while lol, this is my first time with pekins and I'm very nervous have read that they sometimes peep earlier but haven't been able to find any information on when to stop turning them, thank you sooooo much! :-)

If everything is right. Temperature at 99.5 Degrees (F) & humidity is correct for your area, best judged by air cell development, then they MIGHT pip on day 20 but hatch on day 21. Hope they hatch, you'll like them

Do you have a lot of experience with pekins? If you do i would really appreciate being able to ask you questions later on if i need to. :-) i have already decided that i will most likely be building them a large moveable coop and run as we keep our five mutt chickens and two goats in a very large area with housing which tends to get very wet and muddy in the winter and dont think the pekins would appreciate that with the feathered legs but im not sure how badly wet and mud would effect them?
