I am a newbie. And by that I mean I joined this group just 10 minutes ago I am also new to hatching. And my first question is probably silly to most of you. But could you please tell me why not to candle just before hatching? Also, if you are unsure of how long the eggs were laid before you received them, how can you tell when they are ready to hatch? Sorry I am so new to all of these things.

So glad you have joined us.

I have no experience with hatching, but likely you'll see some advice from other members here.

You can also post the questions under "incubating and hatching eggs" forum for more opines.

Also, you should explore the learning center, there are so many helpful articles there.

Good luck with your new adventure.

Welcome to BYC!

Another inexperienced with hatching member here, lol.

x2 on @sunflour 's advice.

Good luck with your hatch. It's nice to have you here!

Well for one thing after lockdown - you should keep hands off the incubator even if you have to sit on them. The chicks(I imagine) would be filling the egg and you probably wouldn't see anything but, will disrupt the temp and humidty if you go in and out candling eggs.
