Hi Guys
I'm in the UK and got my first eggs hatching today! Only 2 eggs made it to today from 6 that went under the broody mum, but one is cheeping and has a hole in it - the other still quiet.
How long does the hatching process take? Got 11 more in an incubator due in 2 weeks as well.
I moved mum and the 2 eggs this morning to an empty stable. After reading some threads have realised that I should have moved her when I put eggs under her. Wouldn't have lost the other 4 eggs if I had! Oh well, I know better for next time.
Hopefully I'll pick up more goods tips from you guys as we go!

Hi :welcome. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101. Glad you joined the flock. The link above is a very good read for learning about incubation. It takes many hours to hatch often 24 hours from pip to hatch and not every chick is the same. Good luck with your broody and chicks and your eggs in the incubator.:frow

Baby Alice born 45 mins ago! 0lb 1oz!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Alice is adorable! Good luck with the rest of the hatch!

Thanks everyone! Quick question though - how long until the chicks start getting up and pecking about for themselves? Bearing in mind that newly hatched Alice is the only one so far (she hatched about 6 hours ago) is it normal for a chick to stay under mum for so long?
