Hello -
I have two pullets that I believe are getting sick. Long story....
One Chick came from my son's school...she was part of their life science unit before school ended. We have raised her from a tiny thing....was always healthy and very spunky.
The other pullet is an Americanus (sp?) and we got her from a roaming poultry/farm animal sale with another pullet who passed away a week ago.
The Other pullet who died had droopy wings and a bark-like cough. We didn't see/hear this when we first got her. She ate like a horse, but looked/acted off. Then one day I went out to put them to bed and she had died.
I noticed an off-like odor when we got these chicks....nothing overtly offensive but not like that "normal" chicken odor. But since we're new to this what do we know....
Now, my pullet I raised from chickhood that we got from school has made that "cough" once or twice. Am I paranoid or is there something up?
We have a separate flock, but they have been isolated from these two since day 1. I make sure that my shoes are quarantined for use in only one place so as to not track in a disease...and hand washing is mandatory to prevent the spread of disease. So far "The Girls" who are not about 18 weeks old show no signs of illness or contagion. They're going about life as they always have.
I have googled all sorts of chicken maladies and I do not believe it is corzya simply because there is no discharge or crusting or swelling.....I think it is thrush and I can get over the counter meds...but would *really* like a vet to see. thing is there doesn't seem to be one anywhere near here!
Help please....a vet is needed, for we do not wish to lose "Brasa" and "Lo Mein".....
Many thanks....
