I am day 22. Woke up to one chickie and one pip. The pip is on the side of the egg near but not at the top. It looks like it is blowing bubbles out of it. Some goo or something. Is this normal???? There are no other pips yet. I'm afraid it can't breathe

I've never had that happen but if it were me I'd go in and help. I'd peel back the egg shell and membrane enough that the chick could breath. It may be too late for it already. If you do open the egg up more you'll probably have to help it hatch. That end up being a long process because you want to wait till the veins in the membrane aren't going to bleed.

Thanks I was kind of thinking that. It prob is too late since it didn't see it right away. I do have others pipping now so opening the bator might hurt them too huh?

Well, everyone says don't open the incubator, you'll compromise your hatch. Honestly, I open mine during the hatch all the time. I have a 98% hatch rate on chicks and that's because they die before I even move them to the hatcher. I would pull the egg out as fast as you can, clear area for it to breath and shove it back in there. If I fool around too much and the humidity goes way down I'll spray the sides and bottom of the incubator with warm water to get it back up. I use a little giant as my hatcher.
