I have pekins and they lay eggs for a few days every day and they will go about 1-2 weeks w/o laying a egg. Whats up with them????? could i feed them layer feed and maybe it'll improve the egg laying ability????? tell me info about your pekins if you have any.

I feed mine Purina Layena and they get fresh greens 2 times a week (broccoli, peas, romaine). Mine lay every day then would take a day or 2 off but no more than 3 days.

You should definitely be feeding them some kind of layer food. Layena, Mazuri breeder, something. Their body needs that extra calcium to make eggs. If they don't have that calcium, they will take it from their bones to make eggs giving them leg issues.

I would immediately get them started on some kind of laying food. I would also give them some Niacin to prevent any leg issues. You can buy Niacin right at Walmart. Some feed Brewers Yeast. That has the niacin in it too.

Don't feed spinach. Although its high in Niacin and calcium, it has oxalates that rob iron from the bones. Spinach is not a good source of niacin.

Most commercial feeds don't have enough niacin in them for waterfowl. That's why its recommended to either supplement with niacin 250 mgs to 1 gallon of water or brewers yeast. I don't know what the measurements are for brewers yeast because I've always used the niacin.
