I dont Know how it happened, But She has a puncher wound under
her left leg. And the skin is ripped.
I took her to the vet. but where i live they dont treat
chickens. they gave liquid Baytril. It seems that the infection is
clearing up. but she wont stand on her leg, its like she in alot of pain, and on her good leg the toes are curling like the nails are too long. I dont know what to do, I'm very attached to her. and i'm very new to this. can anyone give me some advice.

Dont Know what kind of chicken or if male or female, she weighs one and half pounds. she is eating and drinking, I give chicken scratch, worms. her poo, is solid sometime and sometimes runny. I clean the wound twice a day and give herLiquid Baytril once a day as the vet instructed. She has been down since 11/12/08 We keep her in a large dog carrier with pine saw dust, and small towels

we dont know what kind of chicken she is. her mother and siblings are ferral. someone in town let them loose about a year ago. her and her siblins were hatched in the brush. we happened to catch her because she hobbling on one leg and she cound'nt keep up with her mother. so we caught her and nursed her back. I've had her for about a month. and she was doing fine. and then on the 12TH of november she got hurt. we made coop for her and i dont know if a cat reached in and got her.

Sorry I can't be of much help. If you use the search button, you will fin the dosage for asprin for chickens.

The three city dogs that I am petsitting for at my house dug out and it is deer season here. I have them back in, but am too tired to think right now.

Welcome to BYC - sorry it is under such circumstances, though.

Try using Witch Hazel on the injury. Clean with it 3x per day. The Baytril will keep any infection from spreading and promote healing. To tell the truth, your chicken will probly heal on its own. It just takes time.

She will not get better on such a diet. Get a commercial feed appropriate for her age (is this a very young bird not yet laying?>if so she needs a grower feed. If she is of laying age then she needs a layer feed.) Stop giving her worms (worms will GIVE your birds worms!) Look for a complete general poultry supplement at the feed store while you are there getting her the proper feed.

The curled toes is symptomatic of a deficiency... get some POLYVISOL ENFAMIL which is a childrens liquid A-B-D vitamin... give her three drops of that once daily in beak for a week then taper off the next.
As soon as she is no longer on antibiotics offer her a live culture probiotic yogurt free choice daily for several weeks.

You should have this bird on newspaper really with those wounds instead of sawdust (the fine particles are not good for the wound)
Use shavings in the nest... keep the temp stable and warm and do not let her free range until this is all sorted out.

dlhunicorn,

I would like to thank you for your reply, But I have one question, Where do I get Porbiotic yogurt free choice, at a grocery store or health food store?

either... danone has a decent one although there are many brands ... it will say "live culture" and acidolpholus etc.
