Have Conure, Need help

The kids had their vet visit... Khaos weighed 110g, she said a little on the pudgy side. Nothing to worry about, but we should keep an eye on that. Riot was 92g, she said perfect. We got the feathers plucked to send in and get them sexed but I told my son that I already know. Riot is the one that won't shut up and doesn't like to get on the scale, so obviously a female

She was happy that they were in separate cages bringing them in so they were able to get a fecal sample right away. Then I made the mistake of stepping into PetCo. There was a turquoise conure there!

I hated putting on my big girl hat...

When it comes to guessing a conure's sex-prepare for a surprise. Just when you're sure the bird is a female, it'll be a male.

that's a true statement.

I had a male that was 13 years old when he was given to me by a person who hand raised him. After 3 months he started laying eggs which is as good as a dna test so he is defiantly a she. (never layed a egg for 13 years then wouldn't stop even with no nest box, fake eggs, left to brood she just carried on laying like a chicken)
Found her a good home for her after many attempts to stop her laying and the change of owner seems to have fixed the problem. (hasn't layed a egg in over 6 months now)

My wife swears that round head top are males and flatter head top female. (she always said that one was a female before the eggs so maybe shes right)

I thought both of my conures were boys and one DNA test later and they are girls. I'm possibly getting a third conure this week. A baby boy who's owners are allergic to him.

I read somewhere that you can possibly guess by looking at the head... they did say males might have a larger, flatter head. Khaos has a flatter head, but Riots looks bigger. I decided to go with a DNA test since they are in the same cage. If one started laying I wouldn't know which one unless I caght it in the act or it went broody. Last night the DNA test came back.. Riot is indeed a female... and so is Khaos. I've been referring to both as 'he', now I have to learn 'she'

I have a third conure that we got in March, a little Black Capped named Eclipse. We introduced it to Khaos recently (cages were side by side after quarantine). Eclipse doesn't like to be far from the other two, but when out of the cage it attacked Khaos. We broke the fight up, but they don't like to be together. I was thinking both might be males but that isn't the case unless Khaos is one of the tiny percentage where they are wrong. Poor Eclipse was in the pet shop forever, he/she was there in early December when we got Riot, don't know how long before that. It's finally getting to the point where I can get it to step onto my hand without having to try to catch it first. And before it would jump off of my hands when I tried to walk with it, that has stopped too. (The pet shop manager was holding it's toes down when she brought it out and said it would jump off). We're getting there...

GuineaFowling, are you sure the baby is a boy?

Yes, he's DNA tested male. I didn't bring him home yet. I might not because I have a busy schedule and the owner is making it difficult to set up a time to meet him.

You all have beautiful birds !!

I have a pineapple conure (peaches) she is a babe !!

She is very demanding and loving at the same time ! She was hand reared by a lady which seems to have made her like females more !
She can be rather mean to particular males, she had bit a friend until he bled ! But then with me and my DH she is a sweetie pie !!

GuineaFowling, did you get the conure that you were talking about? I want pictures of your three!

bobbie92, peaches is indeed beautiful! I wonder why she tolerates some males but not others?

I am now having a problem with Eclipse... my daughter lives in another state and came to visit. We had the birds out, and she reached towards Eclipse who was sitting on my hand. I don't know if she moved to fast or what, but apparently Eclipse bit her. Eclipse used to grab my finger in his/her beak while stepping up, maybe that's what it was and she just thought it was biting? Either way, my daughter screeched like a banshee, Khaos took off, my son ran after Khaos, and I was just holding Eclipse and scratching the back of his neck while looking to make sure my daughter wasn't bleeding. I didn't think much of it until the next day when I came home from work and my husband told me that Eclipse bit him while he was giving him a treat. He also bit my son. I thought maybe it was cage aggression, but when I had Eclipse out of the cage once my son offered his hand and said 'step up', Eclipse grabbed his finger and held on. There was never a problem until my daughter was here, and now Eclipse is biting everyone but me. He even tried to get at my husband through the cage. I have no idea of what is going on or how to fix it! Anyone have any thoughts?

Yes, I did end up bringing him home. It's become a bit difficult now with having opposite genders. The girls were fine, but now the boy thinks the girls are his:/
Is Eclipse the black capped conure? Maybe she has chosen you as her mate. How old is she? Usually when birds pick someone as their mate all other people are competition and therefore need to stay away. That's why she bites them.
Or it could be because of something else. If you join the forum AvianAvenue, they have several members who are well versed in the subject of avian behaviors. They helped me out with my nippy green cheeks, etc.

Here are some pics of my fids. Echo is the YS, Olive is the Cinnamon, and Kale is the normal boy.
