Have I made a dumb mistake?

Feathersite says the BSL males look barred with some red feathers- that could be it...boys!!

Sounds to me like your two BR X RIR are both roos. They should be black sex link, because the cross was right, but if they are barred, they are roos.

Uh oh!

I just went out & took some pics, but I am on a computer that is new to me, and I can't exactly figure out where to plug my jump drive in

I already knew for certain that one of these chicks was a roo, just based on his comb and his behavior. I could have sworn the other was a pullet! But I guess not. Next time I will know.

So chances are than the ones who are black laced with red on their chest and around their necks are pullets?

I'll plug in my old puter later & get these pics up. Thank you all for the information.

Yes- you have black and red pullets and barred roos- and I'd love to see what other combos you made!!

Designer chickens!!

I have finally gotten the feathersite pics to load (dial up) and it seems that I do, indeed have two sexlink roos. Silly me.

I will post some pics of my mixed up ladies (and gents). My favorite by far is my silkie x RIR. We are calling this bird "Mullet" because he/she has silkie feathers on it's head, which makes it look like a mullet.

My dad said his barred rock/rir crosses were the best layers he ever had.

When I bought my silver laced wynadottes pullets, the farmer threw in two free mutts. His Rhode Island Red had hopped the fence into the SLW pen. The mutts have grown into beautiful hens, in fact one is my favorite of my eight hens, very friendly but she is the boss of the flock and most importantly she is my most prolific layer.
