I was out in the yard with all the chickens the other day. I was looking at my Wellsummer roo and noticed that there was something red near the base of his tail. I snatched him up, and noticed that it looks like baby fluff there, and he is almost 3 1/2 months old. I was digging through the base of this poor roo's tail for the wound, and found it!
He's getting his hackle feathers! They are a bright coppery red and it looked like blood.
He is getting so big!
