One of our ducks is making this weird squeaky noise. Almost like a rubbery ducky. I've heard the sound before, but wasn't quite sure where it was coming from because every time I'd go over to look, the sound would stop. Well, today, I hung my camera (in voice recorder mode) on the fence and managed to capture it three times. I believe it's one of my females. I've got all Khaki Campbells and they are 17 weeks old.

She doesn't seem to be distressed about anything, at least that I can tell. No visible injuries and no one seems to be bothering her when it happens. Seems kind of random. Although, you can hear the 3rd time she does it, there's a lot of noise. We had just put some hay down in the run for the chickies and ducks to forage in. The ducks were quite verbal about their enjoyment of it.

I've had ducks before (when I was a kid), but not for many years and I don't remember ever hearing anything like this. Does anyone know if this is anything to be concerned about?

ETA: This is only about a 30 second sound clip.

I know exactly the sound you are talking about. My scovies do that when they are broody. I just had a hen take to her nest full time yesterday, she's been squeaking at the drake for a few days telling him, "no more".

Broody?! Mine haven't even started laying yet. Somehow, I don't think she could be broody yet.

Besides, I've heard that Khaki Campbells don't get broody very easily.

Guess it'll just be a mystery as to why she does it. Unless someone else has an answer??

i've heard my male mallard make a weird noise before. I sounded almost like a donkey. I think it was just a mating sounds but it was weird. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a sneeze, she's done it before even when we didn't have hay down. I only put a new bale out every several weeks or so, sometimes a couple months.
