Have you ever heard of "manuer balls???"

I just got more chicks! I have GLWs, BRs, and BOs (all pullets). Everyone is happy and healthy, and I am having a blast. However, I remember reading (with my last batch of chickies) that when poop dries and hardens on chick feet, you have to pick it off. Have you ever heard of this? I trust Gail Damerow, but this concept seems a little wacko!

Yes, occasionally, poop will harden on their feet & then new poop builds up on it until it covers a toe or creates a ball. I always pick this off as only happens because they are confined in a brooder & would not happen if they were out free-ranging with mom.

ha ha poo balls! I haven't seen this! I have seen that when my 4 year old goes in there and it scares all the chicks they seem to poop runny poops!
