I have seen quite a few of my hens lay an egg- they aren't that shy! Post your pictures/videos of one of your hens laying an egg!

Probably the most weirdest thing ive ever watched

Wow. The egg survives a bit of a drop! It's a wonder more aren't cracked when laid. I have straw or shavings in my boxes, but they always seem to scratch down to the bare wood when arranging the materials the way they like.......

Neat vid!!

Not only have I seen the video but I've actually witnessed a few of our hens lay when I've been out collecting eggs

I keep a farm journal and it definitely has entries for when I saw different ones lay an egg. Lacy, a rir pullet, is my smallest girl of three but always lets me know when she needs to lay an egg. She's more vocal before rather than after and acted like she didn't want me to leave the coop til after she gave me something to take to the house! Tuxedo the black giant mix wouldn't let us touch her in the box a week after she started to lay so I thought it was too soon for her to go broody. The problem was that she was about to lay an egg so we all had front rows seats when it dropped.

camera almost caught pic of egg in mid air! And I know exactly what u mean by scratching bedding down to wood- if I don't put loads of hay in box then I get a few cracked outer shells from rir's that lay huge eggs.
