Hi, I'm really interested in collecting reviews of BackyardChickies in San Diego. If you've gotten birds from Renee please comment on your experience with them (age, health etc.)

I got two pullets from her in July of 2024 and they had tapeworms when they arrived. While one of them (Jubilee Orpington) is healthy, the other (Wyandotte) just passed from reproductive issues and she was barely a year old. I've heard similar stories of reproductive-related deaths in her Wyandotte line (@socalchickens76) and others receiving chickens that are ill (@ABaskin and yelp reviews mentioning Mareks) I'm curious if it's just a few commenters or a general trend. Thanks

I'm glad you are doing your homework trying to evaluate your chicken source.
I cant help you,, since I have not dealt with said breeder. But still have opinions.
If you get a whiff that there is a possibility of Mareks,,, I would steer clear of them.
You did state that you did get 2 hens from there in the past. Hopefully you did not contaminate your grounds with the Mareks virus. Stuff is nasty,, and difficult to get rid of .
Have you considered getting chicks from BYC members in your area???
