Have you had luck selling roos on Craigslist?

Forgot to ad they are solid white if that matters.I also added pics to my post for Craiglist.I'll let you know if I have any luck.

My buff orp roo sold within an hour on craigslist.

my 2 Rhode island red roo's i couldn't sell at all. Once i posted them free I got more than 5 responses.

The great thing about craigslist, is you never know until you try.

I have sold 3 extra roos.

One sold on Craigslist, one sold here on BYC, and the other sold on a local chicken website. I advertised on all three sites at the same time, and added pics.

I was surprised at how quickly they went. I think the pictures helped, because they were really good-looking birds.

Good luck! Definitely let us know how it goes, and don't forget to post here on BYC in the Buy-Sell-Trade section.

WELL... I posted on craiglist WITH pics of both roos. I had responses right away. So I have someone who is scheduled to come in the a.m. He says he has lots of chickens as pets. I told him I didn't care if he ate them but at 10 weeks he'd have to wait a while.

I am getting $5.00 each and he is driving from 20 minutes away.

I also have 3 others that were interested.SO knock on wood I think they will sell.

On the roos, a lot of times I have had to sell them with a hen even when I haven't wanted to. If it is not possible to sell them with a hen, I have given them away on occasion and that is usually fairly easy.

Same experience I had.

It is usually the same for us with drakes, people typically don't want a lone drake. They want a pair or just females. The last ducks I have had for sale on CL though, several people have wanted a single drake! You just never know.

Lucky for you I just needed a drake!

I know! It is funny though, right? I have had the opposite issue with the WH as normal. Everyone wants a drake, but already has hens. That is great for me! It is always better to have extra girls.

I've had good luck selling roo's on CL... Even have a repeat customer that asks for updates when I have new chickies available! ALWAYS put pics on the ad - I usually skip over the one's with out pics. I want to know if I'm actually interested before I bother the person for more info

I have 2 thoughts about this (I'm lucky, I usually only have 1 thought per month!)

1.) It sounds strange, but if you have trouble getting rid of a roo for free, try advertising it for $2 or $3. Sometimes "Free" equals "valueless" in people's minds ("Must not be worth anything if they are giving it away...") but a few dollars seems like a "bargain."

2.) On a similar note, I worked for an old and very wise country vet who once said, "Don't ever give an animal away, even if you just charge a dollar for it. If you give it away the person might not value it as highly."

That said, I do realize it's a luxury to try this when you need to get rid of roos.

Good luck.

Hi all.The very nice gentleman who responded FIRST to my Craigslist post DID come just a little bit age and got both of them.It was great to talk to another chicken person AND they have POLISH.The ONLY thing we didn't get from or wish list this year.

They said they read but don't post here so I hope they read this.

It was so nice to have someone call like they said they would and come when they said.

It was also great to talk chicken. He hatches out bunches ,and goes to the chicken sales. I told him he should post some polish on CL since they are so hard to get.Hope I convinced them.I will get some polish chicks from him next spring.

Apperantly the fact that my roos were solid white was helpful because I got A LOT of interest.
