a snake tried to get our hen and her 2 chicks, but we killed him before there was any damage. but that was only the beggining of our little snkae problem.we live out in the woods so as you can guess there is going to be a lot of snakes.now we are starting to have missing eggs every day.we dont see any slithering marks but it isnt the wiring isnt big enough for any thing or than a snake to get in.what should we do.

Snakes are my biggest fear for my chickens, too! I've read you can put a golf ball in the nest for the snake to eat. It can't digest it and it will die.

I understand that loosely rolling up chicken wire will produce an ensnaring arrangement through which a snake cannot pass, indeed it becomes irrecoverably trapped. I have read about this on this board, so a successful search may give you the particulars.

We have snakes, but they eat the chipmunks.

Not sure what this means.
Where are you located? Did it happen inside the coop or out in the run or out free ranging?

Need more details, spelled out clearly, to really help.

sorry.i was trying to say that the wiring for the coop isn't big enough for anything but a snake to get in.we live in charleston,sc.out in the more wooded area.the chickens stay in the coop.there are also a lot of leave around it.thinking of putting lime around the coop.would it help?
