I have a red-sex link hen that I thought about mating to either a Buff Orpington or Rhode Island Red rooster. Which would be best to use and what is the likely mixed outcome? Maybe the Rhode Island Red Rooster which would keep the breed more true since the red sex-link is from the RIR Rooster and Delaware hen? I'm bored and just want to see what happens.

Then maybe try hatching 12 of the eggs.

Go for it, its so fun to see what mixed breed chicks turn out like :) My flock consists of an EE roo and BLR Wyandotte, EE, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington, Black Giant, Polish, and Welsummer hens. My newest addition is a Rhode Island Red roo. I was soo addicted to hatching out chicks this year because of all the gorgeous colors I was getting. Now I have like 50 extra birds running around LOL
