Having trouble getting ice out of waterers

I have been saving milk jugs and fill them with hot water. I use that to thaw out my waterers. Plus my birds love luke warm water in the winter. We also have a small room where the water well is in our barn. My husband put styrofoam insulation on the walls and we keep 2- 100 watt light bulbs on in there. It actually gives off enough heat to halfway thaw my buckets.
