Both the hawk and the falcon actually tried getting talons through wire. Would stand on side, watch then attack side of pen.

Think mine have a lot of wild genes in them I think because they do the freeze frame thing every now and then for as long as 20 minutes. Been trying to catch on video or trailcam but no luck yet. Neat to see it happen though.The day I brought my firat quail home I had transported them in a big pet crate. Put the crate underneath a tree in the shade while I went to find the feeders and waterer. Within the half hour there was a hawk sitting on the pet crate. They're super smart. Other than hardware cloth like others have mentioned I don't think there's anything to be done. Apparently the birds think quail are delicious too.
