It's sad for sure, but one of the dangers of free-ranging unfortunately. Gorgeous hawk though.
 
The photo is mine. I was photographing Canadian geese with goslings at a private pond in Argyle, TX.. I was aware a red-tailed hawk was in the area, but did not expect to see it grab a baby. The hawk could not carry off the gosling perhaps because of

the alarm generated by all the adult geese? Second photo is one of a happier situation taken several days before. Charles Baxter
 
I think the hawk pictured is an adult Coopers Hawk, not normally one I would consider a problem around geese.

Was the goosling separated from the adults when attacked. The time on ground would put it at serious risk with adult geese.
