A hawk (I think - we lost an easter egger chicken yesterday and I scared the hawk off) attacked my blue runner duck today. She's almost 10.
I see just one wound so far, under her wing where it attaches to the body. I've managed to slow the bleeding, but I can't really tell how bad it is as I'm afraid to tweak the wing too much. She has a paper towel under the wing and wrapped in a towel sitting next to me on the desk now.
I have blu-kote on hand.
What do I need to do to help her have a chance to survive? All hawk attacks have ended in death from the attack or we have needed to help as the bird was too far to save.
Thank you for any help
I've cleaned the wound as best as I can with water, sprayed with blu-kote, stuck some electrolytes in her water and had her drink so and now she's sitting in the laundry sink for a while. I'll set her up in the hut under the poop board where she sleeps after I get some clean pine straw in there and close her in that area on her own.
