Okay, here in NZ it is currently Autumn (or Fall) and the hawks are beginning to become aggressive and have been killing ducks to eat. About a week ago I was at my Dad's house for the weekend and Mom messaged saying; A hawk has killed a white duck and injured a white drake whilst we were out shopping. Sadly the white drake (Jasmine's clone) died from his injuries before I came home. The hawk has also attacked VERY close to the house, just outside my window. It's beginning to get ridiculous

So, to the point. My Sex linked black layer drake(My own sex link) Has been attacked. He has two bloody holes in his chest, and watered down bloody discharge coming from his nostrils. He isn't eating and only dipped his beak in the water before going back into his kennel. He is currently in a dog crate with a kennel attached, just outside the house. I'm unsure of what to do. He is a fighter, and ran away from me when I tried to pick him up. What can I do? I really don't want him to die, as I've already had enough losses this year.

Is it possible you can get a picture of your duck to view the injuries? Is he still bleeding from the holes in his chest?

I know it can be hard to catch him but your best bet would be to corner him and grab him (if he doesn't get too stressed out) to determine the depth and severity of the holes. These wounds need to be cleaned and treated to avoid infection, and with the bloody discharge in his nostrils it needs to be determined if he has a punctured airway.

Hopefully some more duck people will be able to post here soon!

Thankyou, I have captured him. I could only find one puncture hole on his chest when I looked. He has been eating and drinking nicely.Any ideas on how to treat the wound? Would Iodine spray work?
