So a hawk swooped down on my polish hen right in front of me. It grabbed her and for some reason let her go. She has a wound on her back that looks like just a layer of fat that got ripped up but is still attached. I have her in the house now and I can tell she is still in shock. Is this a type of wound that would heal on its own? What should I be putting on it or giving her? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That looks pretty deep. I've seen worse heal fine, though. Gotta keep it clean (saline, chickens, chlorhexidine, Vetericyn, etc) and moist (antibiotic ointment without painkillers). Also gotta keep her away from flies and watch for shock. Maybe bring her inside for a while with outside visits to the flock.

Poor baby....

I feel like she’s in shock right now. I have her in the house right now in a play pen with food and water. And I can tell she desperately wants to rest but she won’t let herself relax.
