Hawk just killed 3 chicks.

Sorry for your loss. Sadly only a covered run can keep them from that.:(

Yeah , I know. My husband doesnt want to do that, he wants them to be able to free range. We're only going to let them out when were home, I'm going to convince him to let me get an enclosure for them while were not home. Their coop is huge, 16x6, so space isnt an issue.

The damn hawk came back and attacked one of my 12 week old girls, smallest of the 7. I came outside as soon as it happened and it flew away, I was able to get inside and clean the wounds.

I thought she lost her eye and there was a BAD wound by her wing but nothing else thank god. I didn't think she was going to make it, but i clean the wounds thoroughly, gave her some nurtadrench and hand fed her food and water, but she ate and drank and SHES DOING SO MUCH BETTER!!

She opened her eye I thought was gone, shes making her usual noises etc.

If it wasnt for this forum, my girl would be dead. I cant thank everyone in this little group for all of the valuable knowledge I've learned from all of you. Even if she doesnt make it, at least I know I did everything I could.

I'm just feeling so sad but so grateful at the same time.

@Wyorp Rock I want to personally thank you, truly. You and the rest of the experts on here who take the time daily to help those of us who are new to chickens, find themselves in an emergency, are scared, stressed and freaking out- to find our way to make the best decisions and give the best care to our little velociraptors.

Because of you, I was able to remain calm, get all of my birds safe, take the injured bird inside, clean her up nice and get her warm and comfy with food water and nutrients. If it weren't for you and the rest, I would have been out of my mind crying and my little girl would have died which would have made the fatality count 4. Your dedication to this forum and helping animals is just out of this world and I'm so grateful for this site and for you all!!

So Amelia and I thank you, and send so much love from here in NJ!!! <3<3<3

Wonderfully. The first day I believe she was in shock, she didn't move or speak much, I had to hand feed and provide her water and I thought she had lost her eye. Yesterday she opened her eye and started to move around a bit.

Today she is her usual moody self, squawking about the inadequate service shes provided, lol. Thank god she's happy in her little chicken hospital- but I can tell shes getting antsy. Lol
