Hawk ripped the head off my rooster today

I would just do it and not post anything on a public forum board or discuss it among others. they have reserve land to keep plenty of these raptors in food supply they don't need to be hanging around YOUR land, eating YOUR financial investment and livelyhood. Trust me, I understand there needs to be a balance of things, but if A bird of prey is coming around your children and harming your animals, you should take action. Its a federal violation to shoot a mountain lion also, but if it is attacking your children, are you going to wait for permission from the DNR? or take the time out to research what you should do on the internet? No, you shoot to kill! I understand also their is a far stretch between a bird and child in danger but if you can no longer keep your chickens for eggs (food) than I would at least notify the DNR and ask what they can do if you are not wanting to take matters into your own hands. Just noting these are my opinions and if you have a guilty conscience or don't feel my advise as being reasonable, do what you feel is proper and law abiding.

It all depends on where you live. Livestock should not be killed by a predator. You should be able to defend your livestock at any cost. As for birds of prey. If you live in suburbs you have no recourse. If you live in the country, do what you want and keep your mouth shut and get rid of the carcass.
We had a hawk attack a week or so ago. Only lost tail feathers, no injury. The chickens were really freaked out. Some ran into the coop I was cleaning at the time. I ran outside and scared the hawk off. Went back into the coop and the chickens were breaking eggs??? Anybody know why they did this??? Never happened before and not since.

well with the breaking eggs, one probably did it and tasted it and the others joined in. eggs are just as tasty to them as they are to us. My question is, did you get them to stop? Once you have an egg eater, you might as well tie her to a pole to feed the hawks.
