Hello there!

I am new to this forum. My wife and I recently bought 6 (now 5) hens and rooster. There is also a neighborhood hawk.

My wife called me from work today saying that the hawk killed one of our hens. When I got home the hawk was perched high up on a tree screeching really loud and did not touch the hen after it killed her.

Why would the hawk screech? is it calling friends or something? Any ideas?

:welcome :frow So sorry for your loss. Several months ago a Red Tail hawk got into one of my pens and killed several birds. I found the breach and fixed it. I have good heavy duty netting covering my pens. I had to put some of it up in sections. I used cable ties and some disintegrated and came off and left a gap. Now I have the sections connected with hog rings. I have seen and heard some hawks but they haven't been able to get to my birds. Good luck...

I have had a similar encounter just like you
1 Kepp your flock locked up in a covered run for at least a week
2 Get a Fake owl that turns its head to try to make him go away and if you do get the owl you need to move it around daylily so that it looks real
3. try to trap or shoot the hawk

yes I know that you need a permit but you could just shoot it and then burry it

Hawks.
