Has anyone had success with the Hawk Stopper Visual Deflection Nets? I really want the girls to be able to "spread" their wings. Their coop is small (I only have 5 birds...down to 2 due to hawks....thought they had moved on and lost the first bird, then when I went away the people watching them forgot and let them out, 2 more gone....and they had just been outside for 2 weeks). I live on a farm and would love for them to be able to run around more. The sides would be electrified like there coop to keep the ground predators at bay....just wonder if the netting really works? They claim it is a "visual" deterrent for them.

I just use the cheap deer netting from Tractor Supply---7ft x 100ft for $15. Works great. And usually several years. They also have a wider piece something like 14 x 14ft or so.
Do you know how big the squares are? I just talked to the Hawk Stopper folks and their holes are big, 5"x7". They say the hawks avoid it all together so no risk of them flying through them? I am new to chickens...

About 1"x1", fine netting about like 10lbs fishing line. Some of mine had been on about 5 years, BUT we do not have hardly any snow. It has frozen from rain/sleet and held up fine. I am telling you---it works but its cheap. I have 67 chicken pens and most are covered with this. I did find some type of netting on line that was a lot heavier---it was like 25ft wide by 150 ft long--If I had of know of it to start with----I might have gotten it. The deer netting is only 7ft wide so there was a lot of piecing---the 25ft x 150ft was all one piece----that sounds Good---LOL. My longest line is 20ft x 170ft, next one is 150ft. BUT the deer netting has done its job, plus my pens were added in sections----never knew they would get to the length they have.

Are you going to put it over a run or pen?
It would stop birds of prey but not much else.

thanks....I was thinking I might try the deer net....but then again 7'wide isn't a great selling point! haha I've got some plastic rolls of fencing around the farm I might try first -although that is only about 5' feet wide. Need to keep thinking on this.
