i usually let them free range in the late evening, under supervision .the last couple of days.i have been putting them in them in their chicken tractors.and taking them back to their coops at the edge of dark.i'am so afraid to let them free range.that hawk is brave he will perch in the trees and watch us.i seen a setup the other day.they had taken a heavy netting and two tall poles and draped it teepee style.and attached it to the sides of the run to protect them from hawks.it was a neat setup.but i would not trust it.i'am sure coons could chew right through it.i had in mind of just using it in the evenings so i could let my flock out to free range.does anyone on this site know of any resources where i may be able to find some heavy netting.

When I have predators watching my flock, I usually keep them in their house for several days to a week. By then, the predator gives up and moves on to watch the neighbors' chickens. =)

Premier1 might have netting.

this hawk has been hanging around for at least a month or more.i was hoping they were migrating.as we have seen more hawks than usual.i'am in virginia.and our winters are mild.so they may plan on hanging around.i will check premier1.thanks.

What I have done here is use a plastic garden fencing I found at HD and have run electric fencing wire through it. The wire is hot, connected to the electric fence that runs the perimeter of my duck and geese pen. It works quite well. I've had Redtails hanging around all summer because of the noise the ducks make. One of the hawks was foolish enough to land on the top and it got zapped a good one. Lol, I never knew hawks could make those kinds of noises. The plastic fencing is non conductive, fairly strong but might be a bit pricey at $9.00 a 25' roll. Depends on what you want. Just my 2 cents.
