Yesterday the birds are out ranging, just gave the big birds some peanuts. Went inside for a few minutes, come out and no birds to be found. I call for them, the little ones come running from the other side of the house. But where are the big birds??
Well Iam looking all over, calling for them. One comes from over by this car rear end I have covered up with wood.
I look between the fence & shed, White feathers everywhere... My heart just sinks :( So I look around the back, and theres this Hawk munching on our Leghorn.

So, very sad day..... lost our bird that just starting giving us eggs.

I have had some hawk attacks myself.

I just had my first hawk scare. I had not seen one around before. About a minute after I let the girls out I heard a lot of commotion, luckily I was right by the door. I ran out to see the chickens panicked in a corner and a hawk fly up to the tree in our yard. It just sat there and looked at me, so I threw a rock at it (and actually hit it) and it flew off. Four of the five chicks came running to me but I couldn't find the BR. I figured I would get the four safely in the pen and then look for the other. I was pretty freaked! The BR was safe luckily, she hid in some thick bushes. After I got them all back in their pen they huddled together under their ramp. I could hear the hawk up in another one of our trees. I usually leave one of my Jack Russells in the yard to keep the cats out, but now I wonder if he will keep the hawk away.

KoopDeVille, I am sorry you lost one of your chickens.

Ugh. So sorry you had to loose one of your chickies to those pesky hawks. I know how you feel. I live in Idaho, the state with the most birds of prey! Joy.
