Hawks and Eagles!! NEED HELP!!

So, i have an issue with hawks and eagles eating/attacking my flock. i can't cover up the run because it is to big, and they can't stay in the coop all day either! it is also illegal to hunt eagles and hawks. I have a dog, but she doesn't really help that much. I"m out of ideas!!
Please if you have any ideas on how i could keep my birds safe do tell!

I have hawks something terrible here where I live. About the best advice I can give you is you need to reduce the size of the run and cover it for sure!

These shelters have helped greatly for my flock. I still have hawk losses sometimes though.


In the pen on the left I have heavy knotted netting up, but if you look in the pen on the right you will see two hawk shelters. The long one is made of tin roofing.

I also have A-frame shelters that are good- I took a piece of plywood and cut it in half so the two pieces are 8 feet long. Then I put some tin on them with screws and put a ridge cap made of tin so it wouldn't rain in it. So it is a long A-frame they can run into, resting on the ground.

Hello, i have lost to Hawks & Eagles also….I am trying something that a friend has done…That is crisscross the open run with baling string and mylar hanging through out. It is supposed to look like a roof of sorts and they are not supposed to want to fly into the tight spaces…Just started so cannot vouch for it.

@Miss Lydia I believe it was who had the reflective tape link? It appears to have worked for her. Thus suggestion goes along with making more shelters for your flock.

Perhaps you could build a large, covered tractor that you could move from day to day?
