I’m not sure if I need advice, support...probably both. I chased a hawk off one of my girls Christmas Eve. She got up and ran under our porch and I could not coax her out until it was starting to get dark. She was so traumatized as we would expect. I brought her in the house so we could give her some TLC. I expected to wake up Christmas morning to a dead girl, but she lives!!! I’m afraid to move what is left of her neck feathers. I’m afraid of hurting her and I’m afraid of what I will find. When she moves I see bone, a lot of bone and no muscle. How is she still living??? My poor girl. She is the sweetest and prettiest girl. It’s going to break my heart if she doesn’t make it, but honestly that’s what I am expecting.

You can re-post in the Illness/Injury forum on BYC. Might get more detailed response on the health of your chicken and what to do.

Good luck! Poor thing.

The injuries that these birds bounce back from is amazing. I had one hen split open by the rooster's spur. She had a 4 inch gash down her back. She was wide open and I couldn't get it pulled back together for gluing or stitching. We moved her to chicken hospital where we could keep her clean, and safe, and medicated. After a month of meds and antibacterial sprays several times a day, she was back with the flock.

She is one of my friendly, snuggly hens that gives me great offspring, so to me she was worth saving.

Others have lost toes (ya, I don't know either), been ripped open by predators, or done heaven knows what and so far......

I wish you the very best. And no matter what the outcome, know you tried. :)
