Hawks

If you had no hand in situation that purposely caused birds to come together where hawk could not escape then you would be OK. I have seen several videos on the internet where the hawk was somehow contained or prevented by a human from being able to exhibit natural behaviors. Some of those videos were taken down while those that persist appear to be have been made outside of the North American and Western Europe.

I have had to adjust my poultry keeping to make so hawks, especially Coopers and Sharp-shinned do not trap themselves in with adult game chickens. On situation I observed directly had a game hen (not a rooster) very nearly killed a hawk that flew into pen with she and her chicks. This done at same time emphasis is on protecting the chickens.

Ok thank there is hawk that has tried to get them but the rooster stopped it
What I see with the rooster is he simply scares the hawk away. I have seen altercations several times where rooster holds ground and sometimes tried to get at hawk. Hawk was always targeting someone smaller than the rooster. Sometimes the rooster needs to just stand there. Several years back I had a female Coopers Hawk come in regularly after songbirds that sometimes sought cover in locations the chickens foraged heavily. The hawk would fly very close to the chickens yet they barely looked up even when hawk landed just a few feet away. The rooster and hen(s) had chicks with them that would be easy targets for the hawk, but not so when adult chickens were present. In that setting I did not see the adult chickens threaten hawk, although I did see chickens get aggressive when hawk flew at them when group was out in open. Still no contact.

Sorry, but if you had nothing to do with it then they will have a hard time fining your rooster! Good Roo!!! I hope mine does as well. Seriously, hawks have to take their chances in the wild. It won't be the first time a hawk got nailed by its prey.
