Hawks....

You cant really do much but the hawks will most likely forget about ur chickens when they are around 14 weeks because they will be bigger and hard for them to carry away. If ur chickens are little let them free range only when you are outside with them. Once I saw A red Tailed Hawk circling the run and it got me scared but really foxes and racoons are a bigger threat.

The only sure way is to cover the run. Deer netting can be bought for about nine dollar and comes in 7' x 100' rolls and is very east to work with.

we hung up old CDs around where are chickens are and it kept them away we havent had any hawk problems in over a month and we were aving problems with them every day

I dont think it should attack if they are 17 weeks if it does it everyday then i would do something about it

We just spotted a hawk in our yard this morning. From the brief glimpse we got, it looked like a Cooper's.

I was so glad my chickens were in their tractor, safe and sound! Whew.

Davaroo had some really good pointer in another thread, one of which was to plant shrubbery here and there for them to dash to in the event of a hawk sighting. Perhaps he will be along in a bit with more on that.

My rooster does a good job keeping an eye out and warning the hens when hawks are about. They tend to hug the fences during certain times of the day.

And hawks around here are plenty big enough to carry off a full grown chicken.

the fake owls will scare the chickens:cd

I learned that one the hard way, hawk=bird, chicken=bird
