HAY CONCERN

One issue I might add with hay is the flamibility if you're using heat lamps. To reduce risk keep them high and clean.

I use shavings in the coop, and some hay in nest boxes, which the hens scatter into the floor litter. The birds also have access to the round bales fed to the horses, and hay in the barn. They eats lots of stuff, free choice chicken feed, and no issues. Mold isn't good for anyone! Well fed chickens aren't going to eat nasty stems instead of better stuff!

Do searches on "barn fires". They happen a lot from real moldy hay.
Well, the wet hay can combust....I suppose it could get moldy first.
Or the mold is part of the 'composting' that starts the fire.
