Is it ok to put a bale of hay in the coop so they can stay warm ?
will they eat it ?

Normally mine don't, but it depends. They might eat alfalfa (especially the leaves) but probably ignore timothy. Orchard could go either way. If you really want to use hay as insulation you could watch them to make sure they don't eat the stalks or they'll have bad digestive issues. Or you could use a bale of straw.

As long as they have free access to "real food", they will mostly leave the hay alone. Even if they don't eat it, you still want to make sure it is decent quality- not moldy.
