Is hay a good insulator for my chicken run in the winter?

Gotcha! I find hay very insulating, I use it for both my goats and chickens. I think it's a great idea.

Ooh congrats! It sounds like your chicken children will be very well cared for.One time I had some unusable hay that I just tossed in the woods (it was winter time) and I went back to it middle of summer and there was still snow under it!! It's very insulating,my animals love it so much lol!

I appreciate your support. I worry about the girls. We are trying not to use any artificial heat sources. But, did wrap the run in 6 mil clear plastic to reduce drafts. Also I am giving them more corn. Still getting 2 eggs a day.
