Hey all,

I've known I had a roo for a while now (one of these things was much different than the others), and am in the process of making a bigger coop. The smaller prefab we have now will eventually be his bachelor pad for those angsty teenage years. I got all three of them as chicks at the same time, so they have to be 9-10 weeks old give or take.

This morning, at the crack of dawn, I heard the most pitiful attempt at a crow. It sounded like a very strained and prolonged "bawk". Sure enough, my crockrel was sitting on the roost in the run with his neck out trying his damndest to crow at the sun.

I thought this didn't happen for a couple more months? Don't they start to crow when they hit sexual maturity? Can they crow before that?

I'm concerned because I still need to get the four walls up on the new coop, and finish the run. I'm also not getting my additional girls until the end of the month. I'm worried about the two pullets I have being harassed so early. Thanks for the help and advice.

Lots of them won’t start till about four or five months, some even later than that. But this happens often.I already spot two roosters in my bunch just by their personalities and the fact they are very defensive,so some do mature fast.
