My teenaged rooster - nearly 9mos old now - is testing his Rooster Skills, but the hens do not seem impressed.

He will call them over to get something good he has found & the only one who pays him the least bit of attention is the hen the same age he was hatched with . she is his GF

When he sounds his creaky little Alarm, NOBODY listens!

He is still figuring out the Mating Thing - more off-target than On

I tell him I am the only one he impresses.

Will this change as he gets older?
Or is he doomed to be a Low Self-Esteem Flock Leader?

Don't worry, there will come a time when he will take his place as "cock of the walk" and will be hard to live with! It is better if the older girls keep him in his place longer, it makes for a more mannerly roo!

Well, that's Good News.
Right now my #1 & #2 hens keep him in his place: #3 at Best

They will knock him right off if he DARES to try mating them, chestbump & chase his butt to make sure he knows that was a Bad Thing.

I'm also doing my best to keep him believing I am Numero Uno.
I pick up the Boss Hens, make them squat for me while he watches and my latest:
When he flaps his wings, I flap right back at him.
My neighbors must wonder WTH is going on...
