The Crazy Chicken Lady
So, any of you that have read some of my posts know I had a male Guinea to just show up at the farm a while back. He stayed out in the woods the first week but the more I talked to him and called back and forth with him the better he became around me so he started cooping up with the chickens at night.
I was in the process of hatching out keets but it would be a long while before this fella had some friends to run with so my friend said she could give me a guinea girl to go with him. I worried over that because I know they do not like to be displaced at all. We put her in a pen with my growing up chickens and she stayed in there for a week. Guinea Boy was reluctant to go into the coop at night and leave her out in the other pen but he did. Finally, after a week of letting them talk and seeing they truly were in love I let them out together. She immediately took him off to the neighbors and she crossed the street but he didn't so she came back. He brought her home but she would not coop up with him. She kept going down to the woods and getting in the trees, much to his displeasure! He went with her but was really not happy about it.
Last night was the second time in about the 2 weeks they have been together that he got her to come into the coop to sleep. She is funny about that but she came from a home that allowed her to sleep out in the trees so she doesn't know any different.
They are staying closer to home now and today they have not even left my yard except when I walked up to the fence to sell eggs to the neighbor. They followed me across the field and caught bugs.
I have really had a good time getting to know Guineas. I think this will be a life long love.
