About a week ago this Bresse cockerel decided he was a Turkey, found him roosting with them one night and he insisted on it so I let it go. He was with the crew in rooster coop, who were dispersed to breeding pens or freezer camp 2 days ago. His timing was perfect!
I didn't have a pen for a spare Bresse rooster and I didn't fully intend to keep one... he nominated himself for the job and found a place. He was likely getting bullied by the other cockerels and he decided he was over it. He plays with the turkeys, takes off running when they take off, jumps around and flies with them... they took him on with no questions about it.
Other cockerels had gotten the cold shoulder from the Turkeys but they don't seem to mind this one.
The Turkeys are into their delinquent teenager phase, flying over fences and doing what they want. When I walk outside they head to the gate to their pasture, as if they already know the party is over.
